As a baby Christy spent some time in Ireland with the Kenny family because of WWI. I remember being told that as one of his uncles or aunts could not have children they wanted to keep him - after all Thomas and Mary Ellen already had plenty of children :-) That did not happen of course.  He attended Art School rather than normal high school because of his artistic ability. I remember him saying that his father did not think this would lead to a worthwhile profession and they needed the money so sent him out to work instead. I am not sure what job he did at that stage but he ended up being a sign writer and worked for many years at DCL Saltend just outside Hull - now BP. He used to paint shop signs in his spare time too. During WWII he worked in radio/signals, based in England. For some reason he was turned down for active service - even mum did not know why but suspected health reasons.  He married mum in 1940. They bought a house in Hopkins St, East Hull and he lived there until his death. He died of viral pneumonia which was very sudden with no signs of illness prior.

He was a member of St John's  Ambulance which involved, among other things, being the medic at Hull Kingston Rovers home matches. He was an avid Rovers supporter.  He was on duty for the first Beatles concert in Hull and told us of all the fainting girls he had to administer to.

He had the Kenny dry sense of humour and was always telling jokes. I used to attend the Rovers matches as well as regularly going "into town" with him. As a young child I thought he knew everybody in Hull as we could not go for 5 minutes without stopping to talk to someone he knew. Another memory is standing at the top of our street waiting for him to come home from work each day.

(This information from his daughter, Sue Bride)

The uncle and aunt referred to were Uncle Owen and Aunt Kate.  (This information from Kathleen Gooding, Christy's niece)
