KENNY FAMILY |
Kathleen Mary Cook, nee Kenny | |
Kathleen was the eighth child
of Thomas and Mary Ellen Kenny. She died in 1953, aged 38,
after a fall which resulted in a brain tumour, inoperable at the
time. She was survived by her daughters Kathleen and Veronica. |
Reminiscences "Mum was a very attractive woman. She was the pet of the family, according to her sisters, because she had a happy and generous nature. Mum was always ready to help people and when she had her final illness people would stop me on the street to ask about her. She had a great sense of humour. We used to listen to the radio a lot and she was particularly fond of the Goon Show. " (Kathleen Gooding, daughter) "I remember that she was very pretty and also seeing her at the end when she was very poorly. All the family said that she was a very calm and gentle person." (Christine Davison, niece) "My lovely Aunty Kathleen died a month before my fifth birthday (and the birth of my sister Kathleen Mary.) I have only a few snapshot memories of her. One is of being wheeled along Holderness Road in a pram with Veronica. Aunty Kathleen made regular trips to James Reckitt Library, then she would go to Confession at St. Mary's in Wilton Street and later come across to our house. I have a memory of peeping into our front room to see if Aunty had arrived yet but was sent away as she was deep in conversation with my mother. My very last and most vivid
visual memory is of her lying in bed in their downstairs front room.
I can still picture her dark hair against the white pillow case.
Later, I was aware that she had died; for a long time
afterwards I would wonder if she had gone straight to heaven."
