"Joe was the third son of Thomas and Mary Ellen Kenny, born on 20.3.03. Joe’s letter to his brother Frank is undated, but was obviously written between the birth of his nephew (Francis or Young Frank, son of his brother Frank and his wife, Aunt Elizabeth/Elsa), born on 27.4.22. and his own death on 2.1.24. I would speculate that the letter was written during the second half of 1923, judging from his reference to his “little nephew” and his reference to a planned return home “next March” (i.e. March 1924 not March 1923). Joe probably landed in the USA illegally (my mother said once that he “jumped ship”); a search a few years ago in the records at Ellis Island, USA found no trace of Joe as a legal immigrant."
